Important Caveat: These results must be carefully applied to individual horoscopes in light of directional influences (Dasa) and Ashtakavarga dispositions. When there are no combinations for incarceration in the birth horoscope, imprisonment indicated by a transit should not be predicted. Similarly, when there are no powerful yogas in the radical chart, reputation and fame denoted by a transit will have very limited scope for expression.
Modulating Transit Results with Bindus
The standard Gochara results above are raw, unmodulated predictions. Ashtakavarga adds precision by modulating these results based on bindu strength in the transited sign. This is the key innovation of the Ashtakavarga approach to transits.

Applying Common Sense:
Mars transiting a sign with 3 bindus denotes "separation from brothers and women." But suppose the sign happens to be the 12th from the Moon and directional influences do not indicate such evil results, or the native has no brothers and sisters. In such cases, the astrologer must use common sense and modify judgment. Don't blindly apply cookbook results.
The Kakshya System — Precision Transit Timing
The Kakshya system divides each zodiac sign into 8 equal sub-divisions, each spanning 3°45' (3 degrees 45 minutes). These Kakshyas are ruled by the same seven planets plus the Lagna in a fixed order.

"A planet contributing a bindu produces the result of the bhava it aspects much more than the bhava it occupies."

Special Transit Rules — Classical Aphorisms
The following special rules refine Gochara predictions using Ashtakavarga principles:
Rule 1: Saturn Transit & Siblings
When Saturn transits a sign with no bindus in Mercury's Ashtakavarga (after reduction), there will be serious illness to brothers, children, and friends.
Rule 2: Bindu Kakshya Requirement
A planet transiting a sign can give beneficial results ONLY during the period of its passage through Kakshyas whose lords have contributed bindus.
Rule 3: Multi-Planet Simultaneity
When four or more planets simultaneously transit Kakshyas (in their own respective Ashtakavargas) whose lords have contributed bindus, increasing good results happen.
Rule 4: Exaltation/Debilitation
Beneficial effects get accentuated if the transited sign (with bindus) is also the planet's own house or exaltation. Effects are correspondingly low if the sign is the place of debilitation.
Rule 5: Friendship Modulation
Where the Kakshya lord and transiting planet are friends, results will be highly beneficial. If enemies, effects will be adverse (even if bindu present).
Rule 6: Mercury Kakshya Without Bindu
Mercury's transit of a Kakshya devoid of a bindu gives rise to quarrels and nervous debility.
Rule 7: Jupiter Kakshya Without Bindu
Jupiter's transit of a Kakshya without a bindu gives rise to mental worry, financial distress, increase of expenditure, trouble through careless talk.
Rule 8: Saturn Kakshya With Bindu
Inheritance of a legacy can take place during Saturn's transit of a Kakshya containing a bindu (in his own Ashtakavarga).
Rule 9: Saturn Kakshya Without Bindu
If Saturn's Kakshya has no bindu, there will be accidents, fall from elevations, injuries from weapons, quarrels, misunderstandings.
Rule 10: Daily Mental Annoyance
Note the sign with the least number of bindus in Saturn's Ashtakavarga. Every day when that sign is at the horizon (rising), the native will suffer from mental annoyance.
Rule 11: Highest Bindu Sign
When a planet transits the sign with the highest number of bindus in its Ashtakavarga, it advances results of the bhava represented by the sign as reckoned from the Lagna.
Rule 12: Sade Sati Mitigation
The intensity of evil results during 7½ years' Saturn (Sade Sati) gets minimized if the 12th, 1st, and 2nd from the Moon have more than 30 bindus in the Sarvashtakavarga.
Sade Sati Mitigation Through SAV Bindus
Sade Sati (Saturn's 7½-year transit over the Moon) is one of the most feared transits in Vedic astrology. Saturn takes ~2.5 years to transit each sign, so when he transits the 12th, 1st, and 2nd houses from the Moon, the total period spans approximately 7.5 years.
Saturn in 12th from Moon (Phase 1): Expenditure, separation from family, travel to foreign lands, loss of comforts
Saturn in 1st from Moon (Phase 2): Fear, incarceration risk, separation from loved ones, insults, health issues
Saturn in 2nd from Moon (Phase 3): Emaciated appearance, loss of comfort, acquisition but not enjoyment of wealth

How to Check: Calculate the Sarvashtakavarga (SAV) for the chart. Identify the Moon's sign. Count the bindus in the 12th, 1st, and 2nd signs from the Moon. If each has 30+ bindus, Sade Sati effects will be greatly reduced.
Transit Hierarchy — Primary vs. Secondary
The transits of Jupiter and Saturn are of primary importance due to their long cycles:
- Jupiter: ~1 year per sign = 12-year cycle. Major life phase changes.
- Saturn: ~2.5 years per sign = 30-year cycle. Long-term structural changes, karma, discipline.
These slow-moving planets set the background conditions for major events.
The faster planets provide secondary timing refinements:
- Sun: Monthly timing triggers
- Moon: Daily/hourly triggers (emotional fluctuations)
- Mars: 6-week cycles (energy, action, conflict)
- Mercury: Monthly cycles (communication, commerce, travel)
- Venus: Monthly cycles (relationships, pleasures, creativity)
Synthesis Required: It is the combined effects of transits (Gochara) as well as directions (Dasa) that can indicate, for any given period, the nature of results to happen. Never read transits in isolation from the Dasa system.
