The Horoscope of Jesus Christ

Hamsa Yoga, Gajakesari Yoga, and the Astrology of World-Transforming Spiritual Teaching

Important Note on Approach

This article presents B.V. Raman's astrological analysis from Notable Horoscopes (1957) of a reconstructed birth chart for Jesus Christ. This analysis treats the subject as a historical figure whose life events correlate with astrological patterns—it is not a theological statement about divinity, religious doctrine, or matters of faith.

Educational Purpose: The goal is to study astrological combinations (Hamsa Yoga, Gajakesari Yoga, Parivraja Yoga) in the chart of a transformative spiritual teacher whose influence shaped world history. B.V. Raman included this chart with deep reverence for its spiritual significance.

Multiple Perspectives: We acknowledge that believers view these events through faith and scripture, while this study examines astrological correlations. Both perspectives can coexist respectfully. If you prefer not to engage with astrological analysis of religious figures, please skip this article.

Historical Context: The birth data (December 25, 7 BCE) is based on Cyril Fagan's astronomical reconstruction using the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Pisces mentioned by ancient sources. Modern scholarship debates this date. Study this chart for its astrological teaching value, not as historical proof.

Jesus Christ—spiritual teacher, moral reformer, founder of Christianity—stands as one of history's most influential figures, having "altered the whole current of the stream of history" (Raman). Whether viewed through faith as divine incarnation or through historical scholarship as a transformative teacher, the impact is undeniable: over 2 billion people identify as Christian today.

B.V. Raman's analysis of this reconstructed horoscope focuses on astrological combinations that produce spiritual teachers with mass impact: Hamsa Yoga (Jupiter in kendra in own/exaltation sign), Gajakesari Yoga (Jupiter-Moon in mutual kendras), and Parivraja Yoga (renunciation combinations). The chart also demonstrates how Saturn aspecting the Lagna creates lives of poverty, toil, and asceticism—combined with extraordinary spiritual dignity.

What makes this chart particularly instructive is the study of paradoxes: How can extreme poverty (Saturn) coexist with royal dignity (Jupiter)? How can death by torture (Mars-Saturn aspecting Lagna and 7th from Moon) manifest in someone whose teachings emphasize "Do not kill"? Raman's analysis shows how planetary combinations create complex, multidimensional lives that transcend simple good/bad categorization.

Birth Data Reliability: The date December 25, 7 BCE is based on Cyril Fagan's astronomical reconstruction (published in American Journal of Astrology, 1937), which identified a rare Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Pisces in 7 BCE—the "Star of Bethlehem" referenced by ancient sources. The Lagna (Virgo) was calculated by Raman based on three criteria: (1) great yogi combinations, (2) virgin birth symbolism (Virgo = virgin), and (3) death by torture. Modern scholarship debates these dates. Treat this as an instructive astrological study, not historical certainty. See the "Historical Context" section below for methodology.
Chart Reading Approach: When analyzing horoscopes of ancient spiritual figures (Krishna, Buddha, Christ), B.V. Raman emphasizes that "horoscopes of great men are sometimes elusive and cannot be analysed in the light of ordinarily known combinations." We must look for extraordinary yogas (Hamsa, Gajakesari, Parivraja) and nakshatra placements that explain transformative spiritual impact. This differs from analyzing modern figures with verified birth data. Review Part 1 for Raman's systematic method.

Historical Context and Date Reconstruction

The birth date of Jesus Christ has been debated for centuries. B.V. Raman relied primarily on the work of Cyril Fagan, a renowned Western astrologer who specialized in historical chart reconstruction.

The Traditional Date Problem

The traditional date—December 25, 1 CE—was established in the 6th century by Dionysius Exiguus, a Scythian monk who "fixed the present calendar by laying down that Jesus Christ was born on 25th December 753 years from the foundation of Rome." However, biblical scholars have "seriously questioned his findings."

In the 2nd century CE, St. Irenaeus and St. Tertullian placed the nativity in "the 41st year of Augustus (3 BCE)." Various methods have produced highly dubious results, leaving the true date uncertain.

The Jupiter-Saturn Conjunction: Astronomical Evidence

The critical evidence is the rare Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Pisces mentioned in ancient sources as heralding "the birth of the Messiah." Raman writes:

"The one important data which should guide an astrological student is the reference made to the remarkable conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in Pisces 'which must have heralded the birth of the Messiah'. The conjunction of planets which occurred on 17-12-1613 was followed by the appearance of a new evanescent star of the first magnitude... and this attracted the notice of Kepler's pupil Brunowski."

The great astronomer Johannes Kepler calculated that a similar Jupiter-Saturn conjunction occurred in Pisces in 7 BCE. This conjunction matches the biblical account of the "Star of Bethlehem" that guided the Magi (Persian/Chaldean astrologers) to Bethlehem.

Raman notes: "The Magi or the Chaldean astrologers who had gathered their knowledge of the science from the Hindu sages were pastmasters in the art of divination... That a planetary combination of the rarest kind, and one which by the recognised rules of astrology was of stupendous significance actually did occur at this very epoch, we know by the independent investigations of the great Kepler."

Lagna Calculation Criteria

Accepting December 25, 7 BCE as the date, Raman calculated the Lagna (ascendant) using three biographical criteria:

  1. Great Yogi: The chart must show powerful spiritual combinations (Parivraja Yoga, Ketu in 9th, Jupiter-Moon yogas)
  2. Virgin Mother: Virgo Lagna (Kanya = virgin) symbolically represents the virgin birth doctrine
  3. Death by Torture: Mars and Saturn must aspect the Lagna and/or the 7th from Moon to indicate crucifixion

Virgo Lagna at the calculated degree satisfies all three criteria. Raman acknowledges the speculative nature: "The astrologer's task is indeed stupendous because he has to sift through a large amount of confusing and contradictory evidence before he is able to hit upon the appropriate combinations."

Special Features of the Horoscope

1. Virgo Lagna: Symbolic and Practical Significance

Virgo (Kanya) Lagna is symbolically significant: "Virgo representing the virgin and thus is in conformity with the belief held by Christians that Jesus was born to Virgin Mary." Beyond symbolism, Virgo rising confers:

  • Analytical intelligence: Virgo is ruled by Mercury (intellect, discrimination)
  • Service orientation: Virgo is the sign of service, healing, and helping others
  • Humility: Virgo is modest, unpretentious—fitting for one who "consecrated the common lot of toil and poverty"

Raman notes that the Lagna is powerfully aspected by three planets: Jupiter (benefic), Mars (malefic), and Saturn (malefic). "Jupiter's aspect as a benefic is highly significant"—it confers spiritual protection and dharmic purpose. However, Saturn's aspect creates the life conditions we'll examine below.

2. Hamsa Yoga: Jupiter in Pisces (7th House)

Jupiter in Pisces in the 7th house creates Hamsa Yoga, one of the Pancha Mahapurusha Yogas (five great planetary combinations). Hamsa Yoga forms when Jupiter is in a kendra (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th) in its own sign (Pisces or Sagittarius) or exaltation (Cancer).

Raman writes: "Atmakaraka is Jupiter and he is responsible for having caused Hamsa Yoga and Gajakesari Yoga. This is a unique combination indicating the high degree of soul-force possessed by Jesus."

Hamsa Yoga produces:

  • Spiritual eminence: Jupiter as Atmakaraka (soul-indicator) in own sign = highest spiritual development
  • Moral authority: Natural teacher, guide, upholder of righteousness
  • Broad influence: 7th house = masses, public, partnerships—Jupiter here gives mass following
Hamsa Yoga Explained: "Hamsa" means swan—the bird that can separate milk from water, symbolizing discrimination between truth and falsehood. Hamsa Yoga confers this quality: the ability to discern spiritual truth and teach it to others. The yoga is strengthened when Jupiter is also Atmakaraka (the planet with highest degrees in the chart), as Raman indicates here. Compare to Buddha's chart, which also shows Jupiter as a powerful spiritual indicator.

3. Gajakesari Yoga: Jupiter-Moon in Mutual Kendras

Gajakesari Yoga (elephant-lion yoga) forms when Jupiter and Moon are in mutual kendras (1st-4th-7th-10th relationship):

  • Moon in Cancer (11th house from Virgo Lagna)
  • Jupiter in Pisces (7th house from Virgo Lagna)

From Moon's perspective: Moon is in Cancer (1st), Jupiter is in Pisces (the 9th from Cancer). So they're not in mutual kendras from each other, but both are strong (Moon in own sign, Jupiter in own sign), and Jupiter aspects the Moon.

Raman emphasizes: "This is a unique combination indicating the high degree of soul-force possessed by Jesus." Gajakesari Yoga produces:

  • Fame and recognition: Widespread influence
  • Wisdom and compassion: Jupiter (wisdom) + Moon (compassion)
  • Mass appeal: Ability to reach and transform large populations

4. Parivraja Yoga: The Renunciation Combination

Raman identifies Parivraja Yoga (renunciation yoga): "A slight adaptation of the 4th stanza of Chap. XV of Brihat Jataka reveals the presence of Parivraja Yoga which has contributed considerably to the greatness of Jesus as a yogi."

The specific formation involves:

  • Ketu in the 9th house (Taurus from Virgo Lagna)
  • Ketu and Saturn in Karakamsa (Atmakaraka's navamsa position)
  • Multiple planets (including Jupiter and Ketu) associated with the navamsa Lagna lord

Raman explains: "Ketu in Karakamsa with (or aspected by) Saturn made him a Tapaswi. Malefics in Karakamsa or in the 12th from Karakamsa have the power of making one renounce the world and devote himself to serving others and showing them the way to salvation. In Jesus' horoscope, Ketu and Saturn, two powerful malefics, are in Karakamsa."

This is the astrological signature of a spiritual renunciate—one who abandons worldly pleasures to pursue and teach spiritual truth.

Karakamsa Analysis: Karakamsa is the navamsa (D9) sign where the Atmakaraka (planet with highest degrees) is placed. It reveals the soul's deepest purpose. When malefics (Saturn, Mars, Ketu, Rahu) are in Karakamsa or the 12th from it, the soul's purpose involves renunciation, service, and spiritual teaching. This is an advanced technique requiring navamsa analysis. See similar patterns in Buddha and Krishna.

5. Ketu in the 9th House: Atmagnana (Self-Knowledge)

Ketu in the 9th house (Taurus from Virgo Lagna) is a powerful spiritual combination. Raman states: "The presence of Ketu in the 9th from Lagna gave him Atmagnana or the knowledge of the Self."

The 9th house governs dharma, higher knowledge, spiritual teachers, and philosophical truth. Ketu (the south node, representing past-life spiritual attainments and moksha) in the 9th creates:

  • Spontaneous spiritual knowledge: Not learned from books but realized directly
  • Detachment from dogma: Ketu dissolves rigid belief systems
  • Mystical experiences: Direct perception of spiritual realities

Ketu is also in the 9th from Lagna and from Navamsa Lagna (both in rasi and navamsa charts), reinforcing the spiritual teaching dimension.

6. Saturn Aspecting Lagna: Poverty, Toil, and Seclusion

While Jupiter confers spiritual dignity, Saturn aspecting the Lagna creates harsh material conditions. Raman writes:

"Jesus grew up in extreme seclusion and this is indicated by Saturn aspecting Lagna. The house of profession from the Moon is powerfully aspected by Saturn and this shows that Jesus followed 'a humble trade' (carpentry) and worked with his own hands... Saturn aspecting the 9th suggests that he consecrated the common lot of toil and poverty and thereby showed the intrinsic sacredness of human life."

Saturn's aspects create:

  • Poverty: A life of material simplicity and deprivation
  • Toil: Working with hands (carpentry) before spiritual ministry
  • Seclusion: Hidden early years (ages 12-30 mostly unrecorded)
  • Humility: Association with "unlearned and ignorant men chosen from the humblest of the people"

The paradox: Jupiter gives spiritual kingship, Saturn gives material poverty. This combination defines the archetype of the "poor saint"—one who possesses inner riches (Jupiter) but renounces outer wealth (Saturn).

7. Venus Free from Affliction: Moral Purity

Raman notes: "His moral stability is evident not only from the fact that Venus is completely free from affliction (Rahu is 21° removed from Venus) but also by the presence of Kama Yoga."

Venus represents desires, passions, and moral character. When Venus is unafflicted (not closely conjunct or aspected by malefics), it indicates:

  • Celibacy: Control over sensual desires
  • Spotless virtue: Purity of conduct and intent
  • Harmlessness: Non-violence and compassion

Raman later reinforces: "His celibacy and spotless virtue are denoted by the non-affliction of Venus." This is consistent with the traditional understanding of Jesus as celibate and morally pure.

8. Mars Aspecting Lagna and 7th from Moon: Death by Violence

The most difficult combination: Mars and Saturn both aspecting the Lagna and the 7th from the Moon. Raman writes:

"His death by treachery by mob-violence is too well shown by the disposition of Mars. The death occurred by torture and this is shown by Saturn and Mars aspecting Lagna and both these planets aspecting the 7th from the Moon."

This dual malefic aspect on sensitive points (Lagna = body, 7th from Moon = death/maraka) created the conditions for crucifixion:

  • Mars: Violence, weapons (nails, cross), blood, sudden aggression
  • Saturn: Torture, slow suffering, humiliation, public execution
  • Mars + Saturn: Death by violent torture (the cruelest form)

The 7th house from the Moon (Capricorn, if Moon is in Cancer) being aspected by Mars and Saturn indicates maraka (death-inflicting) results through violent means.

Important Events: The Dasa-Bhukti Timeline

The biblical narrative provides limited detail about Jesus's life, but key events can be correlated with dasas:

Saturn Dasa (Birth to ~Age 19): Poverty and Toil

Raman writes: "Throughout Saturn Dasa, life must have been one of poverty, toil and simplicity but it must also have been a life of exalted joy—joy born from within."

Saturn, aspecting the Lagna and placed with the Moon in the 11th house, created:

  • Material poverty: Born to humble parents, raised in Nazareth
  • Manual labor: Learning carpentry, working with Joseph
  • Spiritual simplicity: Detachment from worldly ambitions

Age 12 Incident (Saturn Dasa, Jupiter Bhukti): "At the age of 12, Joseph and Mary took Jesus to Jerusalem and there occurred the memorable incident of his temporary loss and the parents' discovery of him in the temple. This occurred in Jupiter's Bhukti in Saturn's Dasa. Both these planets have contributed to the spiritual dignity of Jesus."

This is the only recorded event from his childhood (Luke 2:41-50)—Jesus questioning temple elders, showing profound spiritual wisdom at age 12. Jupiter (9th from Moon, dharma, temples) in its bhukti within Saturn Dasa activated his spiritual precocity.

Mercury Dasa (Age ~19-31): Inner Spiritual Development

"Mercury's Dasa lasted till he was aged 31. Mercury is the planet of Buddhi or intelligence and it must have been during his period that Jesus underwent inner spiritual experiences and struggle so very essential for realisation of the ultimate truth."

The biblical accounts are silent about ages 12-30 (often called "the hidden years"). Raman suggests this period (Mercury Dasa) was devoted to:

  • Spiritual study: Mercury = intellect, learning
  • Inner struggle: Confronting temptations, realizing truth
  • Preparation: Developing the wisdom to later teach

Some traditions hold that Jesus traveled to India or Egypt during these years to study with spiritual masters—a possibility consistent with Mercury (travel, learning) as Lagna lord in a friendly sign (Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter).

Ketu Dasa (Age ~31-34): Public Ministry and Crucifixion

Beginning of Preaching: "Ketu as we have seen has contributed a lot to his spiritual perfection. It was only in the beginning of Ketu Dasa that Jesus began his preaching and delivered the 'Sermon on the Mount' which hardly lasted for 3 years."

Ketu in the 9th house (dharma, teaching) both in rasi and navamsa, occupying the Karakamsa (soul's purpose), triggered the public ministry. The Sermon on the Mount and the teaching of parables occurred during this brief 3-year period.

Crucifixion (End of Ketu Dasa, ~Age 33): "He was crucified in A.D. [30], at the end of Ketu Dasa. His death occurred by torture and this is shown by Saturn and Mars aspecting Lagna and both these planets aspecting the 7th from the Moon."

The maraka analysis:

  • Ketu is in the 3rd from the Moon (maraka house from Moon)
  • Venus, whose results Ketu should give, owns the 2nd house from Lagna (maraka) and the 3rd and 8th from the Moon
  • Venus occupies the 3rd house (maraka from Lagna)

Thus Ketu, acting as an agent of Venus (a maraka), delivered death at the end of Ketu Dasa.

Maraka Through Nakshatra Lords: Ketu doesn't own any houses, so it gives results of (1) the planets it's with, (2) the planets aspecting it, and (3) its nakshatra lord. Here, Raman identifies Ketu as giving the results of Venus (3rd lord from Lagna = maraka, and 8th lord from Moon = death). This is advanced dasa interpretation: nodes (Rahu-Ketu) act as agents of their dispositers and nakshatra lords. See Graha-Bhava Balas Part 12 for nakshatra strength calculations.

The Resurrection: Transit of Jupiter

Raman includes an extraordinary observation: "The resurrection also took place in Ketu Dasa on 9-4-30 A.D., when Jupiter was transiting the radical Moon and the 7th from Lagna. The transit of Jupiter lends extraordinary colour to the biblical narrative of resurrection."

This is not a theological statement but an astrological note: Jupiter transiting over the natal Moon (life-giver) and the 7th house (Pisces, Jupiter's own sign, creating Hamsa Yoga) could symbolically represent "return to life" or "spiritual rebirth." Raman acknowledges the mystery without claiming to prove or disprove the doctrine.

Philosophical Remarks

Raman's concluding reflections balance respect for Jesus's historical impact with candid observations about the horoscope's teachings:

Historical Reality vs. Mythological Figure

"Whether Jesus Christ was a historical reality or only a mythological figure, the teaching ascribed to him has seized the imagination of all mankind excepting of course the Hindus and Buddhists to whom the principles of morality preached by Christ contain nothing new and are merely ordinary rules of conduct with which every Hindu is expected to be acquainted."

Raman speaks from the Hindu perspective, where teachings like non-violence (ahimsa), compassion, and the Golden Rule predate Christianity by millennia (found in the Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, Buddhist texts). He continues:

"Christ's teachings cannot make an appeal to a cultured people like the Hindus whose philosophical and ethical achievements as revealed by the writings of the great Vyasa, Sankara, Ramanuja and others stand alone as embodying grand truths ever discovered by mankind."

This is not dismissive but contextual: Jesus's moral teachings were revolutionary for the Western world ("inhabitants of the Western hemisphere who had been steeped in superstition, barbarism and irreligious practices"), but familiar to Eastern spiritual traditions.

Achievement: Moral System for the West

"Yet, Christ's achievements were remarkable. Jesus is alleged to have learnt yoga in Hindustan. He gave a moral system to the inhabitants of the Western hemisphere... whose intellects were ordinary and unable to comprehend high philosophical truths. Hence Christ's teachings consist of short suggestive sayings, full of depth, yet free from all affections or obscurity."

Raman credits Jesus with adapting profound spiritual truths into accessible parables and sayings suitable for a less philosophically sophisticated audience. This is a teaching skill reflected astrologically by:

  • Mercury (communication) as Lagna lord: Skill in teaching
  • Ketu in 9th (dharma, teaching): Direct spiritual knowledge
  • Jupiter in 7th (masses): Ability to reach common people

Planetary Indicators of Character

Raman systematically connects planetary positions to biographical traits:

Jupiter and Moon: "Jupiter and the Moon are quite powerful indicating keen mental perception and righteous conduct."

Saturn with Moon: "Saturn's presence with the Moon indicates Christ's meekness, modesty and compassion."

Jupiter and Saturn in Kendras: "It is the major planets, especially Jupiter and Saturn, disposed in kendras that make one an entity." An "entity" = someone with enduring historical presence.

Jupiter and 9th House: "His popularity with the masses, his public life and accessibility and the fullness and completeness of his life so rich in action and varying experience bespeak an exceptionally powerful disposition of Jupiter and the 9th house."

Venus Unafflicted: "His celibacy and spotless virtue are denoted by the non-affliction of Venus."

Mars Disposition: "His death by treachery by mob-violence is too well shown by the disposition of Mars."

The Paradox: Teaching vs. Practice

Raman includes a poignant observation:

"One of the ten Commandments of Christ worth noting is 'Do not kill'. This is indeed noble. But it looks pathetic when we remember that the European nations, mostly composed of Christian units, have vied with each other in resorting to war on the flimsiest grounds."

This is not a criticism of Jesus but of his followers—the gap between teaching (non-violence) and practice (centuries of Christian warfare). Astrologically, Raman might attribute this to the Mars-Saturn aspects in the chart: the very violence that killed Jesus became, paradoxically, associated with his followers' actions.

Final Assessment

"A careful study of the horoscope of Jesus reveals his real personality. He has no doubt altered the whole current of the stream of history and the horoscope presented above testifies not only to the unique character of his individuality, to his devotion and self-sacrifice and to his sinlessness but also to the fact that he furnished to the Western nations, an ideal and moral code which the otherwise most enlightened Christian nations have shamelessly set at naught to serve their selfish ends."

The horoscope confirms:

  • Unique individuality: Hamsa Yoga, Gajakesari Yoga, Parivraja Yoga
  • Devotion and self-sacrifice: Saturn aspecting Lagna (poverty, service), Ketu in 9th (renunciation)
  • Sinlessness: Venus unafflicted (moral purity)
  • World-historical impact: Jupiter in 7th (mass influence), powerful 9th house

Raman's analysis treats Jesus as an extraordinary yogi whose chart demonstrates the astrological patterns that produce transformative spiritual teachers.

Comparative Insights: Jesus, Buddha, Krishna

B.V. Raman's Notable Horoscopes analyzes three divine/semi-divine figures: Krishna, Buddha, and Christ. Comparing their charts reveals patterns and differences:

Common Patterns (All Three):

  • Powerful Jupiter: Krishna (Yogakaraka Saturn + Jupiter aspects), Buddha (Jupiter in 10th), Christ (Hamsa Yoga)
  • Parivraja/Renunciation Yogas: All three show combinations for spiritual detachment
  • 9th House Emphasis: Dharma, teaching, spiritual knowledge (Krishna: multiple planets aspecting 9th; Buddha: 9th lord strong; Christ: Ketu in 9th)
  • Death in Spiritually Significant Dasas: Krishna (Rahu-Rahu), Buddha (Mercury-Mercury), Christ (Ketu-Ketu)—all nodes/Mercury = spiritual completion

Key Differences:

Feature Sri Krishna Gautama Buddha Jesus Christ
Lagna Taurus (earthy, regal) Libra (balanced, aesthetic) Virgo (humble, service)
Primary Yoga Saturn Yogakaraka (125-year life) 5 planets in 10th (world teacher) Hamsa + Gajakesari (yogi)
Material Life Born prince, later renounced Born prince, renounced at 29 Born poor, lived poor
Teaching Duration Entire life (125 years) 45 years (age 35-80) 3 years (age 31-33)
Death Violent (arrow) but peaceful end Natural (old age, illness) Violent (crucifixion, torture)
Saturn's Role Benefic (Yogakaraka, longevity) 10th house (career as teacher) Malefic (poverty, torture)

The most striking difference: Saturn as benefic (Krishna) vs. Saturn as malefic (Christ). For Krishna, Saturn created longevity and kingship; for Christ, Saturn created poverty and suffering. This demonstrates how the same planet produces opposite results based on house lordship and placement.

Study Questions:

  1. Hamsa Yoga Identification: Explain why Jupiter in Pisces in the 7th house creates Hamsa Yoga. What would be the difference if Jupiter were in Sagittarius in the 4th house instead? Would that also be Hamsa Yoga?
  2. Dual Malefic Aspect: Mars and Saturn both aspect the Lagna and the 7th from Moon. Explain how this specific combination indicates "death by torture" rather than, say, death by accident or natural causes.
  3. Karakamsa Analysis: Ketu and Saturn in Karakamsa create Parivraja Yoga (renunciation). What would change if the Karakamsa instead had Venus and Moon (benefics)? Would that still produce a spiritual teacher, or a different life path?
  4. Ketu in 9th vs. Jupiter in 9th: Compare Ketu in the 9th house (Christ's chart) with Jupiter in the 9th house (typical dharma combination). How do these two placements produce different types of spiritual knowledge—direct realization (Ketu) vs. learned wisdom (Jupiter)?
  5. Comparative Challenge: Compare Jesus's Hamsa Yoga (Jupiter in 7th in Pisces) with Augustus Caesar's Hamsa Yoga (details in Raman's book). Both have Hamsa Yoga, but one became a spiritual teacher and the other a political emperor. What other chart factors determine whether Hamsa Yoga manifests spiritually or politically?

Advanced Analysis Exercise:

Historical Date Reconstruction Practice: Cyril Fagan calculated the birth date by identifying the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Pisces in 7 BCE. Research:

  1. What astrological significance does a Jupiter-Saturn conjunction have in Vedic astrology? (Hint: called "Maha Yoga")
  2. Why is Pisces specifically significant for this conjunction in the context of spiritual teachers?
  3. Raman notes that similar conjunctions occurred for Zoroaster and Buddha. Verify: Did major spiritual teachers' births correlate with Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions?

Conclusion

The horoscope presented by B.V. Raman for Jesus Christ demonstrates the astrological signature of a transformative spiritual teacher who combined renunciation (Parivraja Yoga), wisdom (Hamsa Yoga), mass appeal (Gajakesari Yoga), and self-sacrificial service (Saturn aspecting Lagna).

Whether one accepts the historical accuracy of the reconstructed birth data or not, the chart teaches universal principles:

  • Spiritual greatness requires Jupiter-Moon strength: Hamsa and Gajakesari yogas create the soul-force to impact masses
  • Renunciation yogas distinguish saints from kings: Parivraja Yoga (Ketu-Saturn in Karakamsa) redirects power from worldly to spiritual domains
  • Saturn's paradox: The same planet that creates poverty and suffering also creates moral authority through endured hardship
  • Short lives, long impact: Jesus's 33-year life (especially the 3-year ministry) "altered the whole current of the stream of history"—a reminder that dasa length doesn't determine legacy

For students, this chart illustrates B.V. Raman's teaching that "horoscopes of great men are sometimes elusive and cannot be analysed in the light of ordinarily known combinations." We must look beyond textbook yogas to nakshatra lords, Karakamsa, navamsa placements, and the synthesis of contradictory factors (Jupiter's dignity + Saturn's poverty) to understand truly exceptional charts.

As Raman concludes: The horoscope "testifies not only to the unique character of his individuality, to his devotion and self-sacrifice and to his sinlessness but also to the fact that he furnished to the Western nations, an ideal and moral code"—an astrological validation of historical impact that transcends two millennia.
